Alex Nguyen, MD, is a minimally invasive robotic surgeon with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG), specializing in bariatric surgery and reflux surgery — including both primary and complex revisional procedures — as well as surgery for upper gastrointestinal (GI) conditions and complex abdominal wall hernias. A South Georgia native and proud University of Georgia alumnus, he went on to complete medical training and advanced fellowship education in minimally invasive robotic and bariatric surgery at the University of Texas.
Dr. Nguyen performed the first da Vinci robotic gastric bypass in Georgia and the broader Southeast in December 2008 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, marking a significant milestone in robotic bariatric surgery. He is recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery, Hernia, and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
He cares for patients across Northeast Georgia from NGPG locations in Gainesville, Braselton, and Buford. Dr. Nguyen is an active fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Nguyen provides advanced robotic‑surgery training to surgeons nationally and internationally. I was stunned at how much he knew about my health history at my first office visit. He had spent what must have been a good bit of time reading over my medical history, diagnoses, on-going concerns, and last treatments. I was so impressed that he took time to know as much about me as possible before I ever met him. No doctor has ever taken the time to know my health history!

This doctor is probably the only one in my life time I'm 66 years old he gave me my life back. I love and respect this doctor. I don't trust people because I have never been heard. I believe he is my angel on earth he always listens and I listen to him. I am going to miss him it will be too Long before I get to see him again he is very special to me .
