Jana Serna, LCSW

Jana Serna is a provider with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, specializing in behavioral medicine.

Jana enjoys working with adults, specifically women, who have experienced traumatic events and traumatic childhoods. Jana’s ideal patients are those who have had difficult experiences in their past that may be getting in the way of their relationships or well-being in the present. She enjoys working with those who may have been labeled sensitive or high-achieving adults. Jana provides a safe place to help individuals get “unstuck” while gently leaning into the pain so they can start living the life they want.

Jana has experience and interest in working with individuals who meet the criteria for bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, women's issues and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although she recognizes the value of diagnoses, she believes that an individual’s humanity comes first and foremost – she believes people are more than just a label or a diagnosis. She is honored to serve the LGBTQ+ population

Jana draws from numerous therapeutic models including Internal Family Systems (IFS), ego states, somatic and attachment-based theories, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). She has extensive training in Progressive Counting. Jana has worked in private practice, an intensive outpatient program, a community mental health clinic and with Medicaid Core Services.

When she’s not at work, Jana enjoys spending time outdoors with her children, husband and their golden retriever. She also enjoys cooking, reading, journaling and swimming. Jana volunteers in her hometown of Cumming, Georgia, doing meal deliveries for Meals by Grace. She considers herself a student of life and enjoys ongoing training in her field as well as personal and professional growth.
