Karen Zavala-Abrego, CNM

Karen Zavala-Abrego, CNM, WHNP, is a double board-certified Certified Nurse-Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner serving patients at Northeast Georgia Physicians Group OB/GYN in Gainesville. A Gainesville native, Karen brings a lifelong passion for women’s health and a deep commitment to empowering patients through compassionate, culturally sensitive care.

Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Georgia and completed her nurse-midwifery and women’s health nurse practitioner training at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She provides comprehensive care across the spectrum of women’s health, including prenatal and postpartum care, contraception counseling, menstrual and hormonal health management, adolescent gynecology, and sexual health education.

Fluent in English and Spanish — and currently learning French — Karen is dedicated to creating an inclusive, respectful environment where patients feel heard, supported, and informed. Her approach to care is rooted in education, advocacy, and trust.

Outside of clinical practice, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, staying active in her church, weightlifting, and traveling to El Salvador to reconnect with her heritage.
