Matthew Schuchert, MD

Matthew Schuchert, MD, FACS, is a thoracic surgeon with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery. A nationally renowned surgeon who is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, he specializes in minimally invasive lung cancer surgery.

Dr. Schuchert joins NGPG after a distinguished career in academic and clinical practice at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where he served as a tenured assistant professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and as program director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery residency and fellowship program. He completed his own extensive training at UPMC, including Residency and Research Fellowship in General Surgery, a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Foregut Surgery, and a Residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biology from Yale University.

Dr. Schuchert's clinical expertise includes all areas of thoracic surgery oncology, including radiofrequency ablation and CyberKnife. He has published hundreds of articles, abstracts, reviews, and book chapters about lung and esophageal cancer. He is a member of many surgical societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of University Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. He has also been involved in dozens of research projects and clinical trials investigating lung cancer immunology and new therapies.
