Shany Freund Maravankin, MD

Georgia may be the coldest place Shany Freund Maravankin, MD, has ever lived – she saw her first snowfall in Gainesville in 2025 – but it’s also where she feels most at home and where she’s decided to begin her career

Dr. Freund Maravankin earned her undergraduate degree from Florida State University and went on to earn her medical degree at St. George’s University on the Caribbean Island of Grenada. During her residency training with NGMC’s Graduate Medical Education program, she served as chief resident, earned multiple research awards, and found a community she said feels like family.

The care she provides has already made a meaningful impact, as she’s volunteered at Gainesville’s Good News Clinics and Prosalud Centro Medico. She is especially passionate about preventive care and serving Spanish-speaking families in the area.

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Freund Maravankin can be found on the volleyball or basketball court, in the kitchen testing new recipes, or exploring new foods around Gainesville. She also enjoys drawing minimalist line art and spending time outdoors on local hiking trails.
